Q. What happens
if I do not hold offshore survival and medical
certification?
A. The vast majority of our clients demand that
contractors hold current offshore survival and
medical certification. However, should you not
hold these certificates, we aim to secure contracts
that allows personnel to obtain these certificates,
prior to mobilisation date. This does however,
potentially exclude candidates from projects with
little or no notice. We therefore encourage personnel
to keep offshore survival and medical certificates
up to date wherever possible.
Q. How much offshore experience do I need
to “go freelance”?
A. Not only do clients require a good general
knowledge of the offshore / onshore survey industry,
clients also often request personnel to have knowledge
of a particular piece of hardware / software.
Therefore, the more industry experience you have
the better. We welcome applications from personnel
with a variety of experience, who have perhaps
worked for several survey companies, and so have
a broad experience. This broader experience enables
greater flexibility in the types of contracts
that may be on offer to you.
Q. Are there
any opportunities for graduates with little or
no offshore experience?
A. Occasionally, Seistech arrange training courses
for junior personnel, often sponsored by major
survey companies. Registering your CV with Seistech
will leave you in an excellent position should
any training courses become available. Seistech
can also provide impartial advice to graduates
looking to enter the hydrographic or seismic survey
industries.
Q. Can I
turn down work if I am offered it?
A. Contractors are not obliged to accept work
that we may offer them. If you need an extended
period off work (to complete your studies for
example) this can be easily accommodated.
Q. Can I
work as much as I like?
A. If you would like to work more than a regular
rotation, this can be accommodated depending on
market conditions. If the work is there, you can
take it!
Q. Will I
be covered by any insurance?
A. All contractors are automatically covered by
liability insurance, business travel insurance,
personal accident insurance, emergency medical
insurance, and emergency repatriation insurance.
BUPA healthcare is available to regular contractors
at a heavily discounted rate.
Q. What day
rate can I expect to earn?
A. Day rates generally depend on an individual’s
level of experience, but can also depend on the
type, duration and length of project, and can
also vary from client to client. Please contact
us for further details.
